Landlord X v Brentwood Borough Council 2021

Local Government and Social Care Ombudsman, 23 February 2021, case reference: 20 002 688

A local authority obudsman case has highlighted a common issue for landlords. The local housing options team had advised a tenant to remain in the property after an order for possession was made by the court in July 2019. Possession was granted for 9th August 2019 but the council did not complete the Personalised Homeless plan until 12th September. The council had failed to give proper consideration to the impact on the landlord of the advice it had given to the tenant.
