Hi

My daughter and her fiance rent a flat in brighton.  They have been there since last August and have been good tenants and have never defaulted on their rent.

In the post today, they received a letter from the letting agent stating that they were £25 in arrears.  My daughter phoned the agent to find out what the problem was and was told that they had sent a section 13 notice 2 months before informing  them that the rent would be increased on they 15 September.

They have never received this letter and so therefore never had the opportunity to change the standing order.

The letting agent assumed that because they hadn't heard from them that they were in agreement with the rent increase and never contacted them further.

They are both quite upset at this as it is their first flat and they are concerned that this will go against them when they go anywhere else.

Should the agent have contacted them to see if they were ok with the rent increase?
