Hi Me & my wife are current lanlords in Nottingham.  we are currently living in rented accomodation in Oxford while we are looking at purchasing another home.  When we first moved in the Flat was fine.  Now all the four exterior walls are WET and DAMP & MOULD are starting to form.We think that it is rising Damp.  That is just one problem.......Electrics keep cutting out etc ...................
We have been giving a De-Humidifer from our Land Lady.  We also have a 6 month old daughter who is currently experiencing Chesty Coughs....Our doctor says that could develop onto Asthma. 
The Radiators in the home are Blocked in both bedrooms and it is freezing.
The radiators are being replaced but not for 2 months. 
 
~We are looking for someone out there to give us some Advice.
 our Deposit was £1000 and we want to stop paying rent until this problems are rectified and wondered are we entitled to our deposit if we stop paying rent?

Can we take legal Action against the Lettings Agency and Landlady? 

Can we stop paying Rent?

Who can we ask for legal Advice? 

Please anyone offer some Advice......?

It sounds terrible.

I would be more concerned at this stage about the electrics.  Ask the agents to have the electrics inspected for safety asap.

If you are in a flat if its anything but a ground floor it is unusual to be 'damp'. It is more likely to be condensation due to inadeqate heating and ventalation.

The time span for the works does sound too long. Perhaps stopping the rent would galvanise the owner to doing the work quicker or get a quote yourself and give them notice you will arrange it and pay from the rent you are holding.

Make sure you put everything in writing.
