Question Title: Married name?

Question:
404
When I granted a tenancy a couple of years ago the tenants were not married. Since then they have got married. I now want to serve a section 21 notice on them. Can you tell me what names should I use on the notice, their single or their married names?
Answer:
There is no legal requirement for a woman to change her surname when she gets married. It is her own personal choice, although by tradition it is usually the case. So it would be perfectly proper to put the original names that appear on the tenancy agreement on the section 21 notice or, as an alternative, you could address the notice to her in her married name and include her maiden name by the use of the term 'formerly know as.......'.
