Question Title: Gas Regulations - Scotland
| Question: 278 |
| Can you tell me whether the new Gas Regulations apply to Scotland. I am aware that much of the law related to housing in slightly different for Scotland.
|
| Answer: |
| You are quite right that there are some differences in Scottish housing law. For example, the Scottish equivalent of the Assured Shorthold Tenancy is called the short assured tenancy under the Housing Act (Scotland) Fortunately, most of the differences are very slight although the some of the statutory forms do vary in content and layout under Scottish Law. It must be very confusing for firms operating with properties on both sides of the border (Does any agent have any experience of this ?? ) Going back to your original question, the Gas Appliances (Installation and use) Regulations 1994 were introduced under the jurisdiction of the Consumer Protection Act which has equal force in Scottish Law. The regulations therefore apply equally in Scotland and we have verified this fact with the relevant Scottish Health & Safety Office.
