Question Title: Minors
| Question: 236 |
| What is the procedure if a person under 18 wants to rent a house on their own or with another minor ?
|
| Answer: |
| As a minor (under 18 years old) cannot be bound by a contract, the following procedure is recommended: - A guarantor who is of sufficient means and who is prepared to guarantee the rent and all the other obligations undertaken by the minor in the tenancy agreement should be sought - Full references should be taken on the guarantor including financial and character references. - The tenant can then be provided with an appropriate tenancy agreement upon which should be entered the tenants and the landlords details and not those of the guarantors. There are many minors who hold tenancy agreements with this provision.
